A background: Nicholas Hecimovic

My name is Nicholas Hecimovic and I am in currently in the second semester of my junior year at the University of Montana- Missoula. I grew up and did all of my pre-college schooling in Billings, Montana. I chose to attend U of M during my senior year in high school and started my college career as a physics major before deciding that it was not for me after my freshman year. I then took a wide array of classes so as to try to find something I wanted to study more. I found it and am now majoring in Accounting and Management Information Systems and plan on graduating in the spring of 2010, or maybe one more semester. After finishing my undergraduate degrees I plan on attending a master’s program. Right now I am leaning towards trying to get my master’s of Accountancy, but am still keeping the option open of getting a Master of Business Administration. My current plan is to then hopefully take and pass the CPA exam and make my way into the accounting work force. Also, I currently have it in the back of my mind to one day return to school to get a doctorate and then possibly teach accounting at the collegiate level.

After all of this talk of my plans and how they revolve around accounting one might wonder why I am double majoring in Management Information Systems. They are a few main reasons that I chose to get a major in MIS as well as accounting. The first and foremost reason is that I found MIS to be interesting and continually want to learn more about it. The second reason is that I also thought that I might as well double major since I could do it in about the same time as the single major. This led me to think that there is not a better major out there to compliment Accounting, especially with my interest in accounting and the future of accounting with accounting information systems.
